Managing your Mindset with Chris Hatfield

1 Nov 2024

Two weeks ago, Venatrix sat down with Chris Hatfield - Founder & Coach at Sales Psyche, and spoke about all things Mindset & Well-being. One of the main focuses was limiting beliefs and how to tackle them. The other topics ranged from ‘How to Manage Your State’ right through to ‘The Myths of Resilience’.

Here are the tips that one of our consultants, Saskia Williams, learned to help handle those limiting beliefs:

  •  Not every thought is true or even needs to be acknowledged
  •  ‘Controlling the controllables’ - focus on the things you can control and work towards them
  •  Question the belief - instead of 'I can't hit my target' try ‘If I hit my target, how will I feel?'

Ahead of the workshop, Chris asked the team to take part in an online resilience test, where he would be able to see our strengths, weaknesses, and areas to improve on all relating to resilience. Resilience isn’t a ‘natural’ strength or weakness, so it is very interesting to see how different members of the team manage it!

Chris went on to tell us how we all have two main internal decision-makers:

Rational/System 2

  • Responsible for judgement & complex thoughts
  • Thinks about past, present & future
  • Conscious
  •  Seeks novelty

Primal/System 1

  • Led by emotion (where your amygdala sits)
  • Can only think in the present tense
  • Unconscious
  • Seeks familiarity

These both play a huge part in the sales process and how we as humans deal with a sale, resilience, being rejected and dealing with & meeting targets.

The second part of the workshop focused on Cognitive restructuring, and how to reframe your thoughts. The three steps to the restructuring are:

Noticing the thought:

  • Identify and recognise the situation when these limiting beliefs/emotions occurred (is there a pattern?)

Name the thought:

  • What were the automatic negative thoughts you were thinking? E.g. not hitting the target/letting a customer down/ meeting not going well.

Neutralising the thought:

  • Where is the evidence that this thought is true? 4. What else could be true here? 5. What are the benefits of having this emotion (what is it making you think/do)?

This part of the workshop was incredibly beneficial for the team and will be implemented into our work (and personal!) lives. Our next workshop with Chris is in a few weeks, and it is safe to say we are all very excited to learn new skills and tools.

LinkedIn Live: All things SDR!

Our very own Liv Adams hosted a LinkedIn Live with one of her old candidates, Brad Norgate. Liv placed Brad into his first SDR position in April 2022 and within 4 months, he was promoted to an Enterprise SDR!
